In 1949, Hawaii’s Chinese Chamber of Commerce’s Narcissus Festival was tied to the Lunar New Year celebrations, with the narcissus flower symbolizing rebirth and good fortune.
In 1977, I participated in the Narcissus Pageant where contestants are judged on poise, intelligence and talent.

My eye was not on the crown, but on building self confidence as I embraced and enjoyed every moment. My fellow contestants surprisingly awarded me the title of Miss Congeniality which warmed my heart.

If it’s your first time on a bike, a first date or being a contestant in a pageant, everyone’s lifetime moments are important and they tend to define our individual lives whether we know it at the time or not.
